Jess

Jess, Lead Technician

Jessica was born in Humboldt, Iowa. She grew up on a small farm with many different species of animals. She knew from a young age that she wanted to work with animals. Jess started at Kimberly Pines in 2008. She had previously worked at Walcott Family Pet Clinic while attending high school. She attended Kirkwood Community college in 2004 in the Veterinary Technician program. Jessica is married to Edward Bernauer. Together they enjoy gardening, renovating houses and property management. She is also a strong promoter of the “Bully Breeds” and breaking the stereotypes. In addition to her supervisory roles, Jess is fond of assisting surgeries and performing dentals.

Pets: Two American Pit Bull Terriers (Xerces and Star) and a Shih Tzu/ Maltese cross named Rascal. Jess has four cats - Scrawny, Sterling, Minx and Panda.

Ashley

Ashley, Technician

Ashley was born in Kewanee, IL and grew up in Atkinson, IL. Ashley has two sisters (age 10 and 12) and a 5 year-old brother. After graduating from Geneseo High School, Ashley worked at Maple Ridge Vet Clinic while earning an Associates of Art at Black Hawk College. She moved on to work at Oak Knoll Animal Hospital and solidified her passion of working with animals. She relocated to Colona, IL with her boyfriend Derek and their 3 fur babies. There has not been a day without animals in her home. Ashley joined the team at Kimberly Pines in July of 2015 and enjoys helping clients and caring for their pets. She particularly enjoys performing dental cleanings and all aspects of surgery. In her free time, she loves to make art (photography, drawing and painting) and hang out with family. Ashley and Derek also compete nationally in obstacle course racing.

Pets: Brooklyn (White Pitbull) Mia (Blue Doberman) & Layla (Hairless Sphynx Cat)

Kim

Kim, Technician

Kim originally comes from Chicago. She started as a technician at Kimberly Pines Veterinary Hospital in 2004. She received her Bachelor’s in Psychology 2010 and is currently working on getting her Masters in Special Education. Kim also works at Bettendorf High School and Quad City Montessori School. Her favorite cases include exotic animal medicine and reptiles. She is currently engaged to Greg Johnson and has two daughters Roewyn and Raven. In her free time, Kim loves martial arts, herpetology (reptiles), the Celtic Highland games and karaoke.

Pets: Five dogs - Ina (Chinese Crested), Loki (Australian Shepherd), Sage (German Shepherd Mix), Thor (Pit Bull Mix) and Freya (American Pit Bull); a Tortoise and two ball pythons named Helios and Phantom.

Linda

Linda, Technician

Linda is originally from Geneseo, IL. She has a BS in Environmental Health. Before joining Kimberly Pines in September 2013, Linda worked at Rock Island Animal Hospital. One of her favorite technician activities is reading cytology tests with the microscope. Linda collects angels and enjoys crocheting. She loves to relax with her mother, three sisters, nephew and niece.

Pets: Sasha (Shih Tzu).

Lakin

Lakin, Technician

Lakin was born and raised in Muscatine, IA along with her older and younger brothers. After high school, she attended the Vet Tech Institute at Hickey College in Saint Louis, MO and earned her Veterinary Technician Specialized Associates Degree in May of 2015. She returned to the area and worked in both small animal and equine veterinary hospitals. Lakin joined the Kimberly Pines team in September of 2016. Her favorite aspect of veterinary technician work is assisting the doctors with examinations and monitoring surgical patients under anesthesia. In addition to family time and boating in the Ozarks, Lakin is also involved in drag racing.

Pets: Bella (German Shepherd), Baja (Mastiff/St. Bernard), Bristol and Daytona (Yorkies), and 3 Draft Horses named Bill, Spring and Jasper.

Stephanie

Stephanie, Technician

Stephanie is a Rock Island native. She has been actively involved in local theatre since high school as a member of the QC Music Guild, the Prenzie Players and Playcrafters, among others. She earned an Associates Degree in Arts from Black Hawk College and worked for several years as a phlebotomist with Metropolitan Medical Laboratories. Stephanie began working at Kimberly Pines in September of 2016 to broaden her skills in medicine and cuddly creature care. She is currently learning to play the ukulele, but also enjoys singing and knitting.

Pets: A few felines: Gesar (Ges Ges) and Zabulon (Zabby)

Amy

Amy, Reception

Amy hails from Davenport, but has traveled and lived all over the country and even overseas for a time. She has always loved animals and comes from a family of pet lovers. In 1988, she began working at VCA Anderson Animal Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado as a kennel person and then as a veterinary assistant. After returning to her home state of Iowa, Amy started at Kimberly Pines in May of 2000 as a technician, then a receptionist, and was even the office manager for a few years. In her time off, Amy likes hiking with her dogs, reading and camping.

Pets: Two long hair dachshunds named Bunny and Fergus. Watson the smooth-coated dachshund is the youngest of the pack.

Cindy

Cindy, Reception

Cindy joined the staff of Kimberly Pines in July of 2016. Originally from Colona, IL, she attended United Township High School before obtaining an Accounting Degree from Black Hawk College. Cindy gained her customer service experience working for Augustana College and various financial institutions. Although still dealing primarily with clients, she is learning about veterinary medicine and particularly enjoys witnessing surgical procedures. Cindy spends her free time with her husband (Brian), daughter (Lyndsie), son (Bret), and grandkids (Cami and Milo) and watching movies. She is still mourning the loss of her beloved pet Henry, a long hair Chihuahua of 8 years.

Mary

Mary, Reception

Mary comes from Davenport and started with Kimberly Pines in 1988. She previously worked at Oasis Drive–In Theater. Mary’s favorite cases are the ones involving the fly parasite, the Cuterebra. Mary has two sons named Dan and Mike and multiple grandkids. Mary enjoys gardening, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

Pets: A Golden Retriever named Wyatt and four cats – Cooper, Peanut, Buttons and Stormy.

Melissa

Melissa, Reception

Melissa is a true Scott County native. Born, raised, educated and employed primarily in Davenport, she has a true appreciation for her community. Melissa was a valued member of the Abel Keppy Animal Hospital and Village Veterinary Clinic team for 18 years. Shortly after Village’s closure in July of 2015, Kimberly Pines Veterinary Hospital was fortunate to bring Melissa on board. She loves to help animals live longer, healthier lives. When not riding her motorcycle, Melissa enjoys time with her friends, pets and sons – Austin and Dallas.

Pets: Emma and Elsa - the “Boston-ians”, Josie the Labrador and 2 Cats.
